Comet (Wrack) - Québec

The Comet wreck in Québec is a surprisingly atmospheric dive, especially when the light is just right. We love the feeling of slipping into that cool, fresh water and descending onto its timber bones. You can really feel the history here; it sank way back in 1861, and the cold water has preserved a lot of its structure. Our favourite part is navigating through the remaining hull sections, imagining the ship in its prime. It's not a reef dive, obviously, but the freshwater fish have made it their home. We’ve seen hefty Longnose Gar gliding slowly around the timbers, and the Slimy Sculpins are always a treat, tucked into crevices. This site suits divers who appreciate historical wrecks and aren't afraid of a bit of chill. We’d suggest going on a sunny day if you can, the shafts of light penetrating the water really enhance the wreck’s spooky charm. Keep an eye out for the Alewife darting through the clearer sections. It’s a proper dive into the past.
