Katie Eccles (Wreck) - Québec

The Katie Eccles isn't your average lake wreck. She’s a timber schooner, resting upright at 30 meters, and she feels every bit her age, but in the best way possible. You drop down, and the visibility in the St. Lawrence often surprises, revealing her graceful, skeletal form. We love the way the light filters through the water, catching the remnants of her masts and rigging. It gives the whole scene a really haunting, serene quality. Exploring her holds is straightforward, with plenty of swim-throughs, and you get a real sense of her working past. Our favourite part has to be finning along her deck, spotting the resident pike lurking in the shadows, or groups of yellow perch darting among the decaying timbers. It’s a completely different vibe from an ocean wreck, more intimate, a little colder, but full of that unique freshwater character. If you're into history and the quiet beauty of a well-preserved wreck, she’s a standout. We’d suggest a good dive light to really pick out the details in the holds, and definitely drysuit gloves. It’s Québec, after all.
