Mapledawn (Wrack) - Québec

Okay, so Mapledawn. We know what you're thinking – a Québec wreck at 8 meters? But trust us, this isn't just another rusty hull. We love Mapledawn precisely because it’s shallow. It means long bottom times, even for newer divers, and a chance to really soak in the history here without constantly eyeing your gauge. This isn’t some perfectly preserved ghost ship; it's a skeletal remains of a wooden steamship, broken into several sections that scatter across the silty bottom. You’ll find timbers, boilers, and machinery parts, all draped in a thin layer of freshwater algae. The water here is often dark, and that adds a certain eerie charm, especially as your torch beam cuts through the gloom, picking out the shapes of the wreck. We've seen fat Cisco hovering in the shadow of a boiler, and darting Rainbow Smelt flash past broken planks. Our favourite part is navigating the main section of the hull, imagining the ship in its prime before it came to rest here. It's a quiet, reflective dive, more about the atmosphere and the tangible connection to the past than a bustling reef. It's an ideal spot for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the subtle beauty of a freshwater wreck and don't mind a bit of a low-visibility adventure. Go slow, let your eyes adjust, and the details start to emerge.
