Michigan (Wrack) - Québec

The Michigan (Wrack) isn’t about depth, it’s about history, right there in front of you. At a mere 4 metres, this is a wreck dive for everyone, particularly those who love a good story with their bubbles. We’re talking about the remains of an old paddle steamer, a wooden hull now spread out and broken, but still very much recognisable as something man-made that sank a long time ago. You’ll see thick timbers, ribs reaching up from the lakebed, and fragments of what was once a grand vessel. The water in the St. Lawrence River isn't tropical, but on a sunny day, the light pierces right through, illuminating the wreck in a way that feels almost ethereal. Our favourite part? How the freshwater cisco move through the structure, darting in and out of the nooks and crannies like they own the place. We’d suggest going in the morning; the water often feels calmer then and you avoid any potential boat traffic later in the day. It’s a gentle exploration, a chance to really slow down and appreciate a piece of the past without any pressure.
