Munson (Wrack) - Québec

The Munson, or what many divers around here just call ‘The Wrack’, isn’t a warm-water wreck, that’s for sure. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the quiet solitude of cold-water exploration. This old tugboat, scuttled back in 1969, sits upright and largely intact, a real treat to navigate. We love how the wheelhouse is still there, completely accessible, offering a glimpse into the boat’s past. You can fin right through, imagining the captain at the helm, which is a surprisingly powerful feeling. Visibility here can be a bit of a gamble, but when it’s good, the light filtering down creates an eerie, beautiful glow around the hull. Look closely at the metalwork; it’s draped in a thick green carpet of algae, providing shelter for all sorts of smaller creatures. We’ve spotted pumpkinseed hanging out in the darker corners and quick flashes of banded killifish darting through the openings. It’s a dive that rewards slow, deliberate exploration, letting you soak in the atmosphere. Bring a good light, even on a bright day, to really illuminate the interior and the residents within. It’s our favourite kind of wreck dive, a real piece of history colonised by nature.
