Niagara II (Wreck) - Québec

The Niagara II is a purposeful wreck, sunk in 1998 to create a dive site, and it shows. It’s sitting upright in about 25 metres, and the sheer scale is impressive, even if it feels a little artificial at first. We love how the lake has started to reclaim it though; the metalwork is draped in a thick green shag of freshwater algae, and the visibility, usually around 5-10 metres, gives it a properly eerie vibe. For us, the penetration is what makes it. There are multiple entry points into the engine room and cargo holds, all easily navigable. You’ll find old trucks and machinery still strapped down, providing interesting swim-throughs. Keep an eye on your torch beam for the pike and burbot that patrol the deeper, darker sections – they’re often bigger than you expect. This site is ideal for intermediate divers looking to practice wreck navigation and appreciate how quickly an artificial reef can become home for local species.
