Western Reef - Québec

Black Rock Reef is one of those spots we always make time for, a proper stalwart of the Outer Reef. It’s not just the sheer scale of the coral, which is impressive, but the way it’s structured. Think massive bommies dropping down into mini canyons, all topped with these incredible staghorn formations. You often feel a slight surge here, a gentle push and pull that reminds you just how alive this place is. We love drifting along the deeper walls, keeping an eye out for the big bluespotted stingrays often resting on sandy patches. The Flag-tailed Glass Perchlet schools are insane, a shimmering curtain that opens and closes as you pass through. Our favourite time to dive it is mid-morning, just as the sun gets high enough to really illuminate the reef structure, bringing out the purples and oranges of the Pachyseris coral. It’s a site that rewards multiple dives, each one revealing something new.
