Moc Che Deep - Cozumel

P.O.S. (Cockroach Island) sits off North Sound, a little rock with a big reputation. We love this site for its commitment to the small stuff, a true pinnacle dive that rewards patience. The main event is a steep coral and sponge-draped pinnacle, rising sharply from a sandy base at 23m up to a shallow 5m. It’s a good idea to hug the reef, exploring the ledges and overhangs for the tiny, often overlooked residents. We’ve spent entire dives here with our noses pressed close to the rock, spotting everything from Stippled Clingfish to the shy Nine-lined Goby. Watch for Barred Hamlets darting around the crevices. While big pelagics like jacks and barracuda cruise the peak, our favourite finds are usually the Key Worm Eels tucked away in the sand patches at the base or a curious Dark-spotted Snake Eel peering out. It can get a bit of current, so be ready for that, especially on the exposed side. Visibility averages 14m, sometimes less, but it keeps things intimate. This is a site for macro lovers and those who appreciate a slow, investigative dive, not a swift fly-by.
