Nicte Ha isn't a deep dive, usually topping out around 7 metres, but it's one we absolutely adore for its unique, ethereal beauty. Think of it as a flooded jungle garden. The surface is covered in water lilies, their stems reaching down into the clear water, filtering the daylight into shifting patterns on the sandy bottom. Sunlight shafts pierce through, illuminating schools of broad-striped anchovies darting between the lily pads. We’ve spotted turtles cruising through the open water here too, often in the shallower areas. Venture into the cavern, and the whole atmosphere changes. The visibility is usually excellent, often 30 metres or more, allowing those light rays to stretch far into the darker spaces. This is where your buoyancy truly gets tested – we’re talking delicate formations of Massive Starlet and Boulder Brain corals on the walls, alongside the occasional freshwater eel or the incredibly rare blind fish, which are always a thrill to spot. It’s a slow, contemplative drift, perfect for divers who appreciate subtle beauty and have their trim dialed in. It’s not about big pelagics; it’s about the intricate details and the play of light.
