Douglas Rock - Alaska

Levanto Stefano, just off Vlora, is one of those Mediterranean spots that makes you feel like you’re dropping into history. We love it because it’s a proper drift dive, letting the current do the work over a sloping reef. Expect to be carried along past big patches of European fan-worms, their feathery crowns swaying in unison. Look a little closer and you’ll find scarlet coral and sunset cup coral clinging to the rock face, splashes of deep red and orange against the muted tones. The drift is usually gentle enough for keen beginners, but experienced divers will get the most out of it by taking their time to really peer into the nooks. We’ve spotted marbled electric rays tucked under ledges here, and if you’re lucky, a curious abalone. Keep an eye out for Leidy's comb jellies pulsing past – their iridescent shimmer is something else. It's not a site about dramatic walls or huge pelagics, it's about the intricate beauty of the Med's smaller inhabitants and the peaceful rhythm of a good drift.
