England Rock - Alaska

Ytre Kalven isn't your typical tropical escape, and that's precisely why we love it. This is cold-water diving with a serious edge, a place where the landscape above the water hints at the rugged beauty beneath. We’re talking about a site that feels wild, exposed to the elements, and offers a real sense of exploration. Visibility here can be surprisingly good, particularly on calm days, letting you appreciate the dramatic rock formations and the kelp forests swaying with the surge. Keep an eye out for the long rough dab, perfectly camouflaged against the seabed, and the four-bearded rockling darting between cracks. It’s a site that rewards patience; we’ve had some cracking encounters with curious common goldeneye ducks diving around us, their shapes just visible through the green water. This is a dive for those who appreciate the subtle beauty of temperate waters, the quiet thrill of searching for the unusual, rather than being overwhelmed by a riot of colour. We'd suggest checking the weather carefully before heading out, as it can get choppy. Dive it when conditions are right, and you’ll understand why we rate it so highly for a unique Norwegian experience.
