Hannah Rocks - Alaska

Indre Kalven in Stavanger, for us, is one of those unexpected finds that sticks with you. It’s not a deep dive, but the sheer volume of life you’ll encounter in the shallows is just delightful. We love dropping in here, particularly on a calm morning, and just letting the scenery unfold. The kelp forests here are incredibly dense, creating a mesmerizing green cathedral effect as sunlight filters through. You’ll spend most of your time between 5 and 15 metres, often spotting Pollock darting through the fronds. Keep an eye out for Anglerfish camouflaged on the seabed – they’re surprisingly common here if you know where to look. We’ve had incredible encounters with harbour porpoises, often just cruising by without a care, which is always a highlight. This site is brilliant for photographers, especially macro enthusiasts, and newer divers will find the sheltered conditions really forgiving. It’s also our top recommendation for a relaxed second dive. The Bean Horse Mussels are everywhere, adding texture to the rocks, and the sheer number of different gulls and terns overhead on the surface tells you just how rich this little pocket of the coast truly is. It can get a bit surgey after heavy winds, so pick your day.
