Kogangas Rock - Alaska

Quellental isn't your typical colourful reef dive, and anyone expecting Caribbean temperatures will be in for a shock. But for those of us who appreciate the subtle beauty of temperate waters, it offers something truly unique. We love Quellental for its quiet, unassuming charm, a stark contrast to the flashier, more crowded sites further south. Here, the experience is about slowing down and observing. We've spent many a dive here carefully searching the sandy and silty bottoms, often uncovering surprising finds. Our favourite moments are spotting the wonderfully camouflaged broadnosed pipefish, almost indistinguishable from the swaying eelgrass, or watching the little gull dart just above the surface. You'll also find an abundance of common sea stars and industrious shore crabs scuttling about. This isn't a site for deep exploration, but rather a shallow, peaceful dive, perfect for photographers with a keen eye for macro life or anyone looking for a relaxed outing away from strong currents. The relatively sheltered nature makes it suitable for newer divers too, as long as you’re comfortable with cooler water. We'd suggest going in late spring or early autumn for the best visibility, and definitely bring a good torch – even in shallow water, the light can drop quickly.
