NORTH ROAMER - Alaska

North Roamer might only be 9.8 metres long, but this fishing vessel, sunk back in ‘76, packs a surprising punch for a shallow wreck. We love how accessible it is, sitting upright in just 7 metres of water off Jap Point. You can practically spend the whole dive just circling her, taking in the details. The wheelhouse is still largely intact, which is a real treat. We’ve spent dives just peering through the windows, imagining the crew’s last moments. It’s not about huge pelagics here; it’s about the smaller things. We’re talking sculpins tucked into crevices, nudibranchs crawling over the deck plating, and anemones clinging to every available surface. The ambient light at this depth makes for some fantastic blues and greens. It's a proper cold-water wreck, really. We’d suggest bringing a good torch for poking into the nooks, even in such shallow water. It’s perfect for new wreck divers or photographers wanting an easy subject. Just keep an eye on your buoyancy around the more delicate structures; she’s an old girl now.
