Tanu Rock - Alaska

Cala Roja, just off Cabo de Palos, offers a really engaging Mediterranean dive. We love this spot for its surprising variety, especially if you get a bit bored with just sand and rocks. Drop in and you're quickly into rugged terrain, a mix of rocky outcrops and smaller caves. Keep an eye out for the resident barracuda patrolling the deeper sections, and we often spot big schools of mullet silhouetted against the sun. It's a fantastic place to practice your buoyancy as you navigate the swim-throughs, and the pink sea fans here are particularly striking, a real pop of colour against the muted rock. We’d suggest going early in the morning to catch the light streaming through the water – it transforms the whole site. The visibility can be excellent, often around 20 metres on a good day, making it easy to spot those Rüppell's Scaldbacks trying to blend into the bottom. It’s a great site for experienced divers looking for something beyond a simple reef, but even newer divers will find plenty to enjoy if they stick to the shallower parts. Just watch out for the occasional stronger current pushing you around the corners.
