Thorn Rock - Alaska

We love La Reggia for its unique blend of history and biology. Dropping down, you’re greeted by the skeletal remains of what was once a grand vessel, now completely reclaimed by the sea. It’s a proper wreck dive without being overly challenging, an ideal spot if you're keen to explore something more than just a reef. The hull is coated in thick layers of crumb-of-bread sponge and black leather sponge, a striking contrast to the flashes of scarlet and sunset cup coral. We’ve spent whole dives just watching the Pink Sea Fans gently sway, each frond a miniature ecosystem in itself. Look closely and you’ll often spot a Mediterranean Slipper Lobster peeking out from a crevice, or a Common Spiny Lobster lumbering across the deck plates. Keep an eye out for the iridescent Leidy's Comb Jellies drifting by, their internal lights catching the sun. The ambient light filtering through the water around the wreck, often around midday, creates a really atmospheric dive. It suits divers who appreciate a site with character, where history and marine life intertwine.
