Haigh Quarry - Great Lakes
The team at Haigh Quarry are the kind of people you want running your local quarry. They've poured a ton of effort into making this a genuinely enjoyable spot for divers in the Midwest, transforming what could be just another hole in the ground into a proper dive destination. It’s perfect for knocking out those certification dives, sure, but we also love it for a casual Saturday splash when you just need to get wet without a huge travel commitment. Come here when you’re looking for laid-back diving, clear fresh water, and a friendly atmosphere where you’ll always see familiar faces. We’re big fans of the sheer variety of sunken treasures. Forget just one bus; there's a whole fleet of vehicles down there, plus a few planes and even some smaller boats. Our favourite is probably the school bus, which makes for some fun penetration practice, especially when the visibility is good. And speaking of visibility, it’s freshwater, so it can fluctuate, but on a clear day, seeing those wrecks emerge from the green is quite something. We’d suggest getting there early on a summer weekend to snag a good spot and avoid the rush. Don't forget to pack a thick wetsuit or drysuit; even in summer, that quarry water can have a chill, especially at depth.
