Kailua Bay is a reef dive where divers can encounter blue sharks, sea turtles and sperm whales. Water ranges 25-28°C, warmest August, September, October.
Kailua Bay, right off the Kona coast, offers a pretty relaxed dive. It’s a good spot for newer divers or those looking for an easy second dive, with a sandy bottom sloping gently down. You’ll usually find green sea turtles munching on algae, reef fish weaving through the small coral patches, and sometimes a whitetip reef shark cruising by. Surface conditions are often calm, making it an accessible shore dive.
