GEORGIOS G - Dahab

The Georgios G, just north of Dahab, isn't deep, but it's one of our favourite shore dives for a reason. This old steamship ran aground in '78, and time, and the Red Sea, have really worked their magic. You start right at the stern, often with a gentle current pushing you along the port side. The hull is just a metre or two below the surface, so you get incredible light, illuminating the skeletal remains of the deck. We love finning through the massive propeller, watching the light dance through the blades, then moving into the holds. They're open and easy to navigate, with schools of juvenile snapper flitting in and out of the shadows. Keep an eye out for lionfish tucked into the crevices and the occasional moray eel peeking from a pipe. The bow is almost entirely out of the water, a stark, rusty contrast to the blue. It’s a photographer's dream, especially around midday when the sun is directly overhead. It's a relaxed dive, perfect for stretching out your bottom time, and brilliant for newer divers wanting to get a feel for wreck penetration without the depth.
