Blue Water Dive Resort - Hurghada

Okay, so “Blue Water Dive Resort” isn’t a resort, it’s a dive site near Hurghada, and it’s a good one for a chill afternoon. We love it because it’s usually sheltered, making it perfect when the northern winds are kicking up a fuss elsewhere. Drop down and you’re greeted by a gentle slope, mostly sandy, but with these lovely coral heads scattered around like little oases. Keep your eyes peeled for the smaller stuff here. We’ve had some fantastic encounters with African eel blennies poking their heads out of the sand, and the yellowstriped cardinalfish are always a delight, schooling around the coral. Look closely at the heads themselves; you’ll often find peppered squirrelfish tucked into crevices and even the occasional brown-spotted grouper eyeing you suspiciously. It’s a great spot for newer divers to build confidence, and for experienced photographers who want to take their time getting that perfect macro shot. The site just feels relaxed, unhurried. We’d suggest going in the late afternoon; the light really brings out the colours of the corals and the iridescent scales of the rusty parrotfish. Just remember to move slowly, give the place a chance to reveal its inhabitants.
