Kimon M - Hurghada

We’re big fans of a good wreck dive, and the Kimon M, just off Hurghada, delivers a proper dose of history and marine life. This isn't one of those wrecks where you're struggling to make out what's what. The Kimon M sits upright, a cargo ship from the 70s that met its end after a fire. You can still see the cranes, the bridge structure, and the huge cargo holds. Drop down and you're immediately struck by the scale. The bow points west, and the holds are wide open, making for easy penetration for even less experienced wreck divers. Inside, it’s dark, of course, but the beams of light piercing through give it an ethereal feel. Look for the schools of sweepers that have made it home, sometimes so thick you can barely see the opposite wall. Outside, we’ve often seen bottlenose dolphins cruising by, particularly in the morning. Our favourite part is exploring the deck; the railings are encrusted now, and the fish life here is fantastic – parrotfish nibbling at the growth, morays peeking from crevices. It’s a compelling dive, best done early to avoid the crowds and catch those dolphins before they move on.
