KING SHRIKE - Hurghada

The King Shrike isn't just another wreck; it's a wonderfully eerie experience. We're talking about a sailing vessel, sunk deliberately, and it sits upright, almost like it's still sailing the seabed. You descend onto the deck, maybe 10 or 12 metres down, and it feels like stepping onto a ghost ship. The masts are still largely intact, reaching towards the surface, encrusted with colourful soft corals – purples, oranges, and some bright pinks that really pop against the blue. Inside, you can fin through the hold, the light filtering in from above creating these dramatic shafts that dance with the movement of the water. We always see scorpionfish perfectly camouflaged on the deck planks, and lionfish often cruise by, looking quite regal. It’s a photographer's dream, especially around midday when the light is at its best, illuminating the interior spaces. This site is perfect for those who appreciate the quiet dignity of a well-preserved wreck and don't mind a slightly spooky atmosphere. It's a relaxed dive, no strong currents usually, so you can really take your time exploring every nook and cranny.
