Sha'ab Bruce - Hurghada

Sha'ab Bruce, often simply Bruce, isn't always on the daily boat schedule out of Hurghada, and that's usually a good thing. It means fewer divers on the mooring lines. This site feels like a proper Red Sea reef, exposed and alive. We love dropping in on the north side, letting the gentle drift carry us south along the wall. What hits you first is the sheer density of fish. Schools of fusiliers are so thick they can block out the sun for a second. Look closely amongst the soft corals for the iridescent flashes of a Troschel's Parrotfish, or a sneaky wrasse darting in and out. The topography here is intricate; a series of gullies and overhangs offer refuge for camouflaged groupers and often a couple of resident snappers. We’ve found ourselves lingering in one particular canyon, watching Bluestripe Pipefish weaving through the coral branches, almost invisible until you focus. If the current picks up, hug the reef; it's a good spot to practice your positioning. Sha'ab Bruce is a solid choice for divers who appreciate a healthy, dynamic reef environment and aren't afraid of a bit of open water.
