Robinson Club Soma Bay House Reef - Safaga

The Swiss Drop is a site we’ve always enjoyed, especially when there’s a bit of a push. It’s essentially a plateau that drops away, with some neat little cavities and overhangs on the wall itself. If the current is running, you get a lovely drift, just soaring past schools of drummers and parrotfish, their scales catching the light. We often see giant morays here, big old things peeking out of the darker nooks. Emery’s pygmygobies are always a treat to spot, tiny flashes of colour if you slow down and actually look. It’s an easy dive for Open Water divers if you stick to the top of the plateau, maybe 14-18 metres, where the light is still bright. But for those with a bit more experience, dropping down to 20 metres and letting the current carry you along the wall really shows you what the site offers. Visibility usually hovers around 18 metres, giving you plenty of lead time to spot the next school of fusiliers or a passing turtle. For us, the joy here is in the movement and the surprising density of life on the wall itself.
