Thomas Reef, one of the famous Tiran sites, is a deep dive that really rewards good buoyancy control. We usually drop onto a plateau around 20 metres, then follow the reef wall down, sometimes to 35 metres or more if the plan allows. The real draw here is the canyon system, a series of enormous cracks and swim-throughs you can navigate, feeling the reef close in around you. Keep an eye out for bottlenose dolphins cruising the blue, and we've even had a lucky whale shark sighting or two. It’s a site for more experienced divers comfortable with depth and overhead environments.
