Marble Wreck (حطام الرخام) - Jeddah

We always make time for the Marble Wreck when we’re in Jeddah. It’s a fairly easy dive, sitting flat on the seabed at 18 metres, making it perfect for newer wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed second dive. The wreck itself is a small cargo ship, believed to have sunk in the 1970s while carrying a load of marble tiles. You can still see those tiles, scattered across the sand and within the holds, giving the site its distinctive name. What we really love about this spot isn't just the history, though; it’s the way the Red Sea has reclaimed it. The superstructure is quite broken up, but you can still poke around the holds, and the bow section has some great swim-throughs if you're comfortable. Look closely and you'll find schools of glassfish shimmering inside the darker recesses, and we’ve often spotted lionfish perched on the highest points of the wreck. It’s a simple wreck, yes, but it’s full of character and makes for some great photos, especially when the light hits those scattered marble slabs just right. Dive it in the morning for the best visibility and fewer other boats.
