Turc Wreck - Jeddah

The Turc Wreck in Jeddah is one of those sites we always recommend, especially if you’ve got a couple of dives under your belt and want something more substantial than a reef drift. It’s a proper wreck, not just a pile of rubble, and the sheer scale of it really hits you as you descend. We love swimming through the holds, the light shafts cutting through the gloom, and imagining the cargo it once carried. What makes the Turc special isn’t just its size, though. It’s the way the Red Sea has reclaimed it. Schools of yellowfin goatfish hang around the superstructure, and if you look closely into the shadowed corners, you’ll often spot massive groupers lurking. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs on the deck plates – we’ve seen some spectacular ones here. Our favourite part? The stern, where the propeller still sits, encrusted with soft corals that ripple with the surge. It’s a great photo opportunity, especially if you catch it when the sun’s just right. We’d suggest going in the morning; the visibility tends to be better before the afternoon boat traffic stirs things up. Just be mindful of currents on the surface, they can pick up surprisingly fast.
