CLAUDINE

The tug Claudine sits upright at 38 metres, a proper deep dive that we think is well worth the effort for experienced wreck divers. She went down back in '88 after a collision with a pipe-laying barge, which explains the slightly crumpled look of her bow. That deep, the light takes on a beautiful blue hue, and often visibility is really quite good, making the wreck appear almost ghost-like as you descend. We love the penetration opportunities here; the engine room is particularly atmospheric. Keep an eye on your no-deco time, though, as it’s easy to get lost in exploring the wheelhouse and crew quarters. The wreck itself has become a home for a decent collection of resident fish – look for schools of snapper hanging around the superstructure and moray eels peeking from the darker corners. It’s a quiet, atmospheric dive, often with just your boat on site, which makes it one of our favourite deep wreck experiences in the region.
