OBELIX - Dubai & Abu Dhabi

Obelix might be small, but we love it for its sheer character. This isn't some purpose-sunk spectacle; it’s a barge that capsized in 1973 while being towed, and that history makes it feel genuinely old and a bit spooky. Lying upside down at 25 metres, its 18-metre hull is now a concrete roof for all sorts of critters. Swimming underneath, we always find big schools of snapper and fusiliers hanging out in the gloom, sometimes a grumpy moray eel peeking from a crevice. It’s dark and intimate inside, a proper wreck dive where you feel the weight of its story. Conditions here can get a bit surgey, especially if there’s any surface chop, so aim for a calm day. We'd suggest getting there early too, before other boats might kick up the silt. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate a wreck with a real past, not just a structure, and who like the challenge of exploring a slightly confined space. Keep an eye out for the resident barracuda patrolling the perimeter, they're often lurking just at the edge of visibility.
