QATHON - Dubai & Abu Dhabi

The Qathon wreck, she’s a bit of an old girl, sunk back in ‘78 after some serious weather ripped her from her moorings in Abu Dhabi. At only 5 metres deep, it’s not a challenging dive at all, making it perfect for newer divers or those who just want a relaxed potter around. We love this site for its history, a real connection to the Gulf's maritime past. You’re exploring a workboat, so it’s got that sturdy, utilitarian charm. You can easily spend an hour finning slowly around her, poking into nooks and crannies. Over the decades, she’s become a home for all sorts of residents. We’ve seen schools of snapper zipping around the superstructure and moray eels peeking out from behind corroded plating. The light penetration is fantastic at this depth, really bringing out the muted colours of the coral growth that's started to encrust her. Our favourite spot is usually around the bow, where the biggest shoals tend to congregate. If you hit it on a calm morning, the visibility can be surprisingly good, giving you a clear view of her whole outline from above. It’s a gentle dive, more about observation and soaking in the atmosphere than anything high-octane.
