ANGLO 22 - Mar del Plata
The Anglo 22 isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. Forget deep blue darkness; this site sits in a mere four metres of water, just off the coast of Mar del Plata. It’s the perfect spot for a long, shallow bottom time, letting you really soak in the details of this old lighter vessel. Despite the shallow depth, the Anglo 22 has a surprising amount of character. You can still make out the hull plates and structural ribs, heavily encrusted with mussels and anemones, which act as a magnet for smaller fish. We've spent hours here, just tracing the outline of the wreck, watching schools of silversides dart between the barnacle-covered beams. It’s a completely different vibe than a deep offshore wreck – bright, accessible, and full of life that thrives in the sunlit shallows. On a calm day, the visibility can be surprisingly good, making the entire wreck pop. It’s a fantastic site for newer divers looking for their first real wreck experience, or for photographers wanting to experiment with natural light on a historical structure. Bring a good torch to peer into the shadowed nooks; you'd be surprised what you might spot tucked away.

Wreck History - ANGLO 22
- Vessel Type
- barge
- Cause
- unknown
Resting in the shallows off Mar del Plata, the ANGLO 22 is a dive into simple, accessible history. As a lighter vessel, this flat-bottomed barge would have been a workhorse of the port, shuttling cargo between the shore and larger ships moored further out. The cause and date of its sinking are lost to time, but its designation as a 'Dangerous Wreck' speaks to its position just 4 meters from the surface, posing a hazard to navigation. For divers, this means an easy, sunlit exploration. While not a dramatic wreck, the ANGLO 22 offers a great opportunity for new divers to experience their first wreck, or for photographers to practice their craft in excellent light. Expect to find a simple structure, now home to a variety of local marine life taking shelter in its remains.
