CHATA NO 17 - Mar del Plata

Mar del Plata's coastline is littered with history, but Chata No. 17 stands out for us, not for its danger, but for its sheer accessibility and character. We love it because it’s a wreck dive without the depth or decompression worries, sitting flat at a mere 7 metres. You’re essentially hovering over a time capsule. What you'll experience here is less about penetration and more about exploring the outline of a working vessel. We’d suggest going on a calm day, because the visibility can drop quickly with swell, but on a good day, the light pours in, illuminating the structure. We’ve seen quite a few local fish species darting in and out of the ribs, and the entire wreck is carpeted in an astonishing array of anemones – so many that the steel almost vanishes under a pulsating, colourful layer. It’s perfect for new wreck divers wanting to feel the history, or photographers keen on macro life against an industrial backdrop.
