CHATA POTRERO - Mar del Plata

Chata Potrero isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. This isn't some deep, dark behemoth. Instead, you'll find her just four metres down, a shallow resting place for a vessel that once carried stone. It’s a dangerous wreck, yes, but for us, that adds to the character. What you get here is a unique, almost archaeological experience. The wreck is essentially a collection of metal plates, ribs, and scattered debris, all beautifully colonised by the local ecosystem. You’ll weave through the skeletal remains, spotting an unexpected number of small crustaceans clinging to the corroded metal. We often find juvenile fish darting between the plates, perfectly camouflaged. Our favourite moments are when the sunlight pierces the surface, creating shimmering patterns on the wreck, highlighting the subtle hues of the growth on the steel. It's an intimate dive, perfect for photographers looking for detail or anyone who appreciates the quiet beauty of history reclaimed by the sea. Don't expect dramatic swim-throughs, but do expect a fascinating exploration of a shallow, vibrant artificial reef.
