CHICHITA - Mar del Plata

Chichita is one of those wrecks that just grabs you. It's a wooden fishing trawler, not huge, but it's got character – a bit like an old friend slowly giving way to the sea. We love that it sits in such shallow water, just 4 metres deep, making it accessible for pretty much any diver comfortable with a drysuit, given the chillier Argentine waters. You can spend a solid hour just circumnavigating the hull, poking your head into the old wheelhouse, or what's left of it, and imagining the stories. We’ve seen schools of silversides darting in and out of the skeletal ribs, and the way the light filters down through the kelp, dancing on the decaying timber, it’s genuinely mesmerising. Our favourite time to dive Chichita is early morning, before the swell picks up, when the visibility tends to be at its best. It's not a deep, dramatic wreck, but for an immersive, historical experience with plenty of small details to discover, it’s a clear standout in Mar del Plata.
