CLASSIC III - Mar del Plata

CLASSIC III is a dive that always puts a smile on our faces. Lying just off the coast of Mar del Plata, this isn't some deep, dark technical wreck. It’s a shallow, accessible beauty, sitting in a mere four metres of water. We love taking new wreck divers here; it's a perfect introduction to the history and atmosphere without the pressure of depth. The wreck itself is a collection of old fishing vessels, mostly trawlers, sunk deliberately to create an artificial reef. While they're not intact ships to penetrate, the jumble of steel plates, ribs, and propellors makes for fascinating exploration. You can weave through the structures, finding little swim-throughs formed by collapsing sections. Visibility can swing wildly, but on a good day, the sunlight filters through, illuminating schools of silversides darting between the rusty frames. Look closely, and you’ll spot crabs scuttling over the metal, and we often see small octopuses tucked into crevices. It’s a gentle, relaxed dive, ideal for photographers wanting to practice close-up shots on the encrusting life, or just for soaking in a bit of local history. Our favourite time to go is mid-morning, just after the sun has had a chance to properly break through any morning mist.
