CLELIA C - Mar del Plata

The Clelia C, sunk just off Mar del Plata, is a cracker of a shallow wreck and one of our favourite shore dives in Argentina. At a mere 10 metres, it's perfect for a long bottom time, giving you plenty of scope to explore. We love finning over the crumpled superstructure, imagining the ship's final moments. What really makes it special for us is the way the wreck interacts with the light – on a sunny day, shafts pierce through the disturbed water, illuminating the hull. Look closely and you'll spot crabs scuttling amongst the plates and small shoals of fish darting in and out of the openings. The site itself isn't teeming with large creatures, but the wreck's skeletal remains create a fantastic habitat for smaller critters. It's an easy dive, often with a bit of a surge, but that just adds to the atmosphere. We'd suggest going on a calm morning; the visibility can be a bit hit or miss, but on a good day, the Clelia C really shines, offering a wonderfully atmospheric dive into Mar del Plata's maritime past.
