COLONIA - Mar del Plata

Dive site Colonia is an old fishing trawler, sunk close to shore and sitting in only 4 metres of water. We love this site for its accessibility and how much detail you can pick out. It’s perfect for new divers or anyone wanting a relaxed, long bottom time. As you descend, the wreck appears quickly, its bow pointing towards the surface. The entire structure is covered in mussels, barnacles, and green algae. You can weave around the mast, explore the decaying wheelhouse, and peek into the cargo hold, which is now home to small schools of silversides. The visibility here can be a bit shifty, sometimes 5 metres, sometimes 2. But on a good day, with sunlight filtering through the shallow water, the wreck has an eerie, almost ghostly glow. Our favourite part is finding the massive spider crabs that often cling to the propeller shaft. Watch out for the local fishermen’s lines though, they sometimes drift near the site. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility.
