CORY NO.6 - Mar del Plata

CORY NO.6 isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. Forget deep, dark penetration. This isn't about bragging rights for depth, it’s about accessibility and history. Resting in a mere three metres of water, the Cory No.6 is a real treat for anyone who appreciates a good story with their dive. The wreck itself is a lighter vessel, sunk dramatically after being battered against the quay in heavy weather back in 1971. Even now, you can almost feel the chaos of that day when you swim over its remains. It's broken up, yes, but still very much a wreck, scattered across the seafloor. Visibility can be a bit hit-or-miss here; if you catch it after a few calm days, you're in for a treat, but strong winds can stir things up. We’d suggest going early in the morning for the best chance at clarity. Despite the shallow depth, the marine life here has really made itself at home. Look closely and you'll spot small crabs scuttling amongst the twisted metal, and schools of silversides often shimmer over the deck plates. It’s a photographer’s dream if you’re into macro, with nudibranchs occasionally popping up on the encrusted surfaces. We particularly enjoy poking around the larger sections of hull, imagining the crew on board that stormy day. It’s a perfect site for snorkelers, freedivers, and open-water divers looking for something a bit different, a relaxed exploration of a tangible piece of maritime history.
