COSTA MEDITERRANEA - Mar del Plata

The Costa Mediterranea sits in just seven metres of water, making it one of Mar del Plata's most accessible wrecks. We’ve always appreciated a shallow wreck, especially when it’s this interesting. She’s a dangerous wreck, yes, but for experienced divers, that just means more respect, not less exploration. We love how the hull is split wide open, giving you easy access to what remains of the engine room and cargo holds. Sunlight streams through the gaps, illuminating schools of silversides that flicker like disco balls. You’ll spot conger eels tucked into shadowy corners and nudibranchs grazing on the encrusted metal. It’s not about big pelagics here, but rather the quiet beauty of a man-made structure slowly being reclaimed by the ocean. Our favourite time to dive her is on a calm morning, just after sunrise, when the water is still and the light is soft. The visibility isn't always fantastic – this is the Atlantic, after all – but when it's good, it's a truly atmospheric dive that suits confident wreck enthusiasts.
