DEPEMAS 51 - Mar del Plata

DEPEMAS 51 isn't your typical colourful reef dive, but we think it offers something genuinely special for wreck enthusiasts in Mar del Plata. This isn't a deep dive, barely touching 5 metres, making it incredibly accessible for newer wreck divers or anyone looking for a relaxed exploration. The wreck itself, a small fishing vessel, lies surprisingly intact on the sandy bottom, the wheelhouse still recognisable, barnacle-encrusted and a little spooky. We love how the hull has become a canvas for the ocean, draped in green algae and fuzzy anemones. Look closely in the shadowed nooks; we often spot small spider crabs scuttling and juvenile fish darting amongst the twisted metal. It’s an intimate wreck, easy to navigate, and we’d suggest going on a calm day; visibility can be a bit variable in Mar del Plata, but when it’s good, the light plays beautifully through the water and off the wreck. Our favourite part? Peeking into the small holds and imagining the catches it once carried.
