DON IGNACIO - Mar del Plata

Don Ignacio is our pick for a Mar del Plata wreck that just keeps giving. This isn't some deep, dark behemoth; it's a lighter vessel, sitting upright at a friendly 8 metres. What we love about it is how much character the wreck has, despite its shallow depth. You can spend a good chunk of a dive poking around the various compartments, the holds are wide open, and the superstructure is still largely intact. The light here is usually excellent, filtering down and illuminating the resident fish. We've seen schools of Argentine sea bass sheltering in the shadow of the deck, and you'll spot plenty of blennies tucked into every crevice. Keep an eye out for the octopus too; they’re masters of camouflage here. It's a genuinely relaxing dive, perfect for photographers wanting to practice their wreck composition or anyone who enjoys an easy potter around a piece of history. We’d suggest going on a calm day; visibility can drop if there's been a lot of surge.
