DON TOMAS ROLDAN - Mar del Plata

The *Don Tomas Roldan* sits in the shallows, a true ghost of the past. We love this site for its accessibility and the sheer story it tells. At just three metres deep, it’s a brilliant introduction to wreck diving, perfect for those building confidence or keen on a relaxed dive. We’ve spent hours here, just finning around the broken hull, imagining the ship’s final moments. You’ll find the wreck well-colonised by local life; schools of silversides often shimmer around the remaining structure, and we’ve spotted plenty of crabs scuttling amongst the plates. The visibility can be a bit variable, especially after a storm, but on a calm day, the sunlight filters beautifully through the water, illuminating the rusted metal. We’d suggest going early in the morning, before the boat traffic picks up, for the best light and the quietest experience. It’s not about big pelagics here, it’s about the intimacy of exploring history, feeling the texture of the aged steel, and watching the smaller creatures make a home of it.
