DONA AGUSTINA - Mar del Plata

Diving the Dona Agustina in Mar del Plata isn't about deep blue water or pelagic action. It's about history, cold water, and getting up close with a wreck that’s practically begging for exploration. This old fishing trawler, sunk deliberately, rests in a mere three metres of water. We love that you can spend an entire dive just circling her, poking into nooks and crannies. Visibility here can be a bit hit or miss, so pick your day. A calm morning after a few days of settled weather is our favourite. When it's good, you’ll clearly make out the boat’s structure – the wheelhouse, the deck, even the old mast lying askew. The real stars are the crabs. They’re everywhere, scuttling over the rust-coloured hull. You’ll also spot small fish flitting in and out of the openings, finding shelter in what's become their artificial reef. It’s shallow enough for extended bottom times, perfect for photographers or anyone who just wants to soak up the atmosphere of a submerged piece of Mar del Plata's fishing heritage. Bring a good torch, even in three metres, to really illuminate the darker corners and the vibrant colours of the algae and anemones that cling to the metal.
