ESSO NEUQUEN - Mar del Plata

The Esso Neuquén isn't your typical deep wreck, and that's precisely why we love it. This isn't about chasing depth, it's about a proper piece of history right in the shallows of Mar del Plata. You're diving barely a meter, sometimes less, practically eye-level with the surface yet entirely immersed in a different world. We find the best time is a calm morning, before the beach gets too busy, when the sun just starts to penetrate the water, highlighting the skeletal remains of the old tanker. It’s an incredible experience, swimming around the mangled plates and twisted girders of a ship that once plied these waters. Look closely and you’ll find countless crabs scuttling over the rusted metal, small fish darting in and out of the crevices, and sometimes even a curious ray gliding past. This site is perfect for anyone, from snorkelers to experienced divers just looking for something genuinely unique. We’d suggest bringing a camera with a wide lens; the way the light plays through the shallow wreckage makes for some striking shots.
