ETA IV - Mar del Plata

Alright, Mar del Plata. We’re not talking tropical reefs here, but ETA IV has a charm all its own, especially for those who appreciate history and a good, solid wreck. This old barge, sitting flat in about four metres, is our pick for an easy, fascinating dive in the area. We love how the shallow depth really bathes the wreck in light, making the details pop – you can clearly make out the mast structure and the hull plates, barnacle-encrusted and softened by years underwater. It’s an excellent spot for photographers, particularly on a calm, sunny day when the visibility extends a good distance. You’ll spend your time exploring the open hold, which is now a bustling apartment block for various crabs and small fish. We’ve seen blennies darting in and out of crevices, and often find schools of silversides shimmering around the remaining upright sections of the mast. It’s a gentle dive, perfect for newer wreck divers or anyone looking for a relaxed exploration where you can really take your time to soak it all in. Just watch out for jellyfish during late summer; they can be quite prevalent.
