FERRO CARRIL DEL OESTE - Mar del Plata

The Ferro Carril del Oeste is one of those sites we always recommend to newer wreck divers, or anyone just looking for a relaxed dive in Mar del Plata. It sits shallow, just 8 metres deep, a real gift for bottom time and sunlight penetration. What you get here is a charming, broken-up railway wagon, not a grand ship, but still an excellent structure for exploring. We love finning around the scattered metalwork, imagining the train’s life before it became an artificial reef. You’ll find schools of small fish, likely silversides, darting through the chassis, and we’ve often spotted blennies peeking out from behind rust-covered beams. Our favourite part is the way the sunlight filters through the surface, casting dancing patterns on the sandy bottom around the wreck. It’s not a challenging dive, currents are usually mild, making it a perfect spot for photography or just an easy afternoon dip. Visibility can vary with the season, but even on an average day, the wreck stands out clearly. It's a gentle introduction to wreck diving, letting you focus on the details without any added stress.
