Francisca A. F. de T. - Mar del Plata

The Francisca wreck, sitting at just ten meters, is an absolute standout for new divers in Mar del Plata, or anyone who just fancies an easy, shallow explore. We love how accessible it is, meaning you can really take your time poking around without worrying about deco limits. It’s not one of those massive freighters, but a smaller, older vessel, likely a fishing boat or coastal freighter, and that gives it a wonderfully intimate feel. What you get here is a chance to really appreciate how quickly the ocean reclaims its own. The hull is still surprisingly intact in places, a skeletal frame now completely draped in anemones and bright sponges. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for small blennies and gobies, and we often spot juvenile hake darting in and out of the rusted metalwork. Visibility can be a bit variable, but even on an average day, the sheer density of growth on the wreck makes for a compelling dive. Our tip: go during the week if you can, it tends to be less crowded and you’ll have more time to yourself to discover its secrets. It’s a proper hands-on history lesson, just ten meters down.
