Galufa - Mar del Plata

Galufa, Mar del Plata’s most accessible wreck, offers something genuinely different. It’s a shallow dive, barely 2m deep, making it perfect for those days when you just want to get wet without the faff of deep diving, or for newer divers looking for their first wreck experience. The wreck itself is a jumble of twisted metal, a former fishing vessel that met its end close to shore. We love picking our way through the structure, seeing how the ocean slowly reclaims what was once a working boat. What you'll find here is a vibrant micro-ecosystem. The metal beams are covered in anemones that sway with the gentle surge, and we've spent countless minutes watching tiny crabs scuttling amongst them. Keep an eye out for the small shoals of silversides that dart in and out of the darker spaces, creating flashes of light. Our favourite time to dive Galufa is early morning, before the day boats stir up the sand too much, when the light filters down through the surface, making the wreck glow. It's a quick, easy dive, but full of character.
