GHEISA - Mar del Plata

Gheisa is not your typical deep blue wreck dive. This is a shallow, almost surf-level experience, making it a unique one in our books. She’s a motor vessel, right there in the shallows of Mar del Plata, classified as a dangerous wreck by some, but for us, she’s a fascinating, accessible piece of history. What we love about Gheisa is the interaction of sea and rusted steel, right on the edge of the shore break. You're diving in just two metres of water, feeling the surge gentle push and pull you around the superstructure. It’s an intimate dive, perfect for those calm days when the sun is high and you can really see the light play through the skeletal remains of the deck. We’ve spotted crabs scuttling amongst the corroded plates and small shoals of fish darting in and out of the darker spaces. It’s a great spot for photographers keen on capturing that juxtaposition of industry and nature in a dynamic environment, or for divers who want a change of pace from deeper, more demanding sites. Go on a weekday morning to avoid the crowds, the visibility is usually at its best then.
