GIOCONDA - Mar del Plata

The *Gioconda* isn't a deep dive, sitting at a comfortable 9 meters, but don't let the shallowness fool you. This wreck has history, settling here in 1929 after a storm dragged her anchors. We love the way the hull has become a vibrant, living canvas. You'll weave through rusted plates and skeletal ribs, sunlight dappling the interior where schools of silvery silversides often swarm, flashing like disco balls. It's an easy dive, perfect for newer wreck enthusiasts or those who just want to spend a leisurely hour exploring. Our favourite part is poking around the bow, where the chain locker still sits largely intact. Look closely, and you'll spot resident spider crabs scuttling over the encrusted metal and, if you're lucky, an octopus peeking from a dark crevice. The sheer amount of mussel growth is incredible, creating nooks and crannies for smaller fish. Visibility can vary, as it often does around Mar del Plata, so we'd suggest picking a calm day to fully appreciate the details. It’s a genuinely engaging wreck, not just a pile of metal, and definitely worth a dip if you're in the area.
